A 72 year old lady was suffering from pain in the Left knee for the last 5 yrs. She was walking with a walker for the last 2 months because of progressive deformity of her left leg. Her left knee was bowing outwards. As a result her knees were knocking against each other
She was found to be having osteoarthritis of the left knee resulting in “valgus”deformity. Majority (> 95%) of the patients have a varus deformity in which the leg bends inwards; only a few patients have valgus deformity in which the leg bends outwards.
In this patient we could manage a good result using conventional implants. However, there are occasions when we have had to use special Constrained Condylar implants for the knee. She is doing very well in the recovery period.
